What the hell was that all about?

  1. haha, I like the wording of the topic for this discussion lol. I think there is a message in all the chaos that is this incredibly creative film, I think the message is a little more complex than a the film shows at face value, then again maybe not, and there in lies the magic. This movie is a rarity this day in age for multiple reasons, one being the just pure good nature, innocence, and an all around nice/fun diegesis created by the director. This movie isn't meant to be studied, isn't meant to portray a huge underlying meaning, nor does it seem the director has an agenda, just clean-hearted fun through and through, and in an extremely talented and creative way.

  2. I agree with Kenneth on the fact that it wasn't meant to be studied. It was made purely for entertainment in my opinion. What the hell was it about though? I haven't watched many french films, and certainly have never seen a french cartoon made the way this was. I did enjoy Indian and Cowboy, and how they used the figures in the film. It was a comedy in a weird sort of way. However, I wouldn't recommend this film to anyone that didn't have to watch it.

  3. Right on to what's already been said here. I think this movie was solely to entertain in a bizarre new way. One could certainly explain away everything in the film as a symbol or allegory but who knows what any of this actually means. I think it is meant to be fun and achieves that goal in a "what the hell is going on" kind of way. I would be open to watching this movie again. If for nothing else the film is enjoyable for the visuals

  4. This film was both funny and visually enjoyable to me. This film is exactly how Blakewood said, it embodies its title well, crazy in a panic like way. With so many things happening it envoked the question "what the hell is going on?" I find many things comical because im not picky but i believe this was quite funny.I actually thought of toystory alot when watching.

  5. I also find the movement very "ADD" or sporatic, which I also find humurous. Even though some would label this movie as a bit ridiculous I find that it is pleasingly obnoaciously ridiculous. I agree with PhiTubbs when he says that this film is not for everyone. I have seen french films before but none like this. Additionally a lot of ppl have said that this film should not be studied because it is mearly for entertainment, but I believe that it should be studied for a since of entertainment. If you want to make people laugh or lighten the mood I think people should take what they see from films like this.

  6. This movie expresses slapstick comedy throughout it's entirity. Basically, the animations portrayed in this film were taken to the extreme. The movie means to gain the audience's interest with constant absurdity. Also, the concept of Cowboy and Indian getting along is interesting though it seems nothing deep is perceived.

  7. In addition to the film's ridiculousness, an underlying plot is present. Because the bats are stealing the house, Cowboy, Indian, and Horse have to chase after them. In my opinion, the only possible intellectual meaning of this film explains that no matter how different someone or something might be, we can all make peace some way or anonther.

  8. I believe this fim was just some French animators just having fun making random cartoons. I feel like they were trying to make a french south park and that we can not appreciate some of the more subtle humor becaqusse we are not french and connot understand it.

  9. I think they were trying to go for a type of family guy comedy where everything is kinda random. Also it is basically them kinda poking fun at some movies already made. However the story line in it makes you think that working together and perseverance can calm the town called panic.

  10. This was probably one of the most random films I have ever seen and I think it was made purely out of entertainment. It was definitely an eye opener to me because it was so different. The concept of the film was so simple, but very interesting. Having a horse as a main role, along with the cowboy and indian, was such a random collection of characters. I cant tell if the people who made it had the intention of giving it deeper meaning. It was very humorous and "out there", but I enjoyed it.

  11. This movie was a trip deep into someones imagination. I really enjoyed it cause it was so crazy and random. It reminded me of Gumby at times. The way it was filmed and dialogued was perfect for the fast paced chaos it was obviously aiming for. It was almost impossible to take your eyes from the screen without missing something! This is a movie I think kids and adults could definitely enjoy, but for different reasons. There were some moral values seen played out, and Horse almost acted as the most sane character. Through all the chaos in life, you still need to focus on your goals. Thats a bit of a stretch but its what I felt through the film.

  12. I like what Ian said "In my opinion, the only possible intellectual meaning of this film explains that no matter how different someone or something might be, we can all make peace some way or another." That is very true for this movie I think. No matter how "crazy" or chaotic or just different the people around you are, you can always make an effort to bring peace. Although that was hard at times, it was just a way to drive the plot even further into its crazy, random plot line.

  13. My first thought of this film was that it was a drawn out, remake of Toy Story. Then when I thought further into the movie it actually seems to be a simplier, faster pace version of Toy Story. However, I did enjoy some of the artistic aspects of this movie. I can not tell if the creators of this film had an intention of giving a deeper meaning, like Kelsi stated above. It seems though, that this film was made for the entertainment of children and I would not recommend this movie to anyone besides my six year old neice.

  14. This is a hilarious and insanely original movie, so I would recommend it to anyone who wants to watch something different. I can understand what others have said when they speak of the odd French humor. Americans may not necessarily find the same things to be funny. This movie reminded me of Wallace and Gromit in a way, except Wallace and Grommit was clay animation and this movie was paper mache. Also, it was much more fast-paced. I laugh at the dumbest things so I thought the chaotic and almost child-like plot was pretty funny.

  15. The film kind of reminded me of those crazy shows on late night cartoon network, like Aqua Teen Hunger Force. It seems like the French's version of that random kind of comedy. They were getting wasted at that party which seemed to seperate it from a kid's show. I also completely agree with Ryan that it somewhat reminded me of Wallace and Gromit. The plot was simple and at the end it came down to everyone getting along and finding peace after the ridiculous journey they went to to get their walls back.

  16. I really enjoyed this movie. It wa extremely funny, in a random sense. I actually prefer this type of comdey. I don't see it being that different from shows like family guy or futurama. Also I appreciate the clay-mation aspect of the film because it doesn't seem to be the easiest medium to work in.

  17. Unlike some of the above opinions I don't believe this movie had any intellectual o deeper meaning. In my opinion this movie was made for entertainment. Although it does have a very elementary moral to the story, which was that everyone can get along. But without this moral there would be no story line. Just because a film was made for a certian reason does not meant that we can't take something more from it.

  18. I didn't see the movie but I visited the website and played Kung Fu Tractor. All I can say is what a trip and it would have been different to watch. Sorry I missed it.

  19. I really liked the movie in a weird way. It was definately entertaining and hilarous. But I think its a one time thing. I probably wouldn't watch it again. I have no idea what this movie is about.

  20. The title of this film is completely appropriate because everything about it was hectic and watching it literally stressed me out. The figures moved and talked so fast I felt like I was watching it in fast forward. The pace of the plot, and great number of things going on added to the “panic” of it all and created anticipation. I enjoyed Indian and Cowboy the most; they were goofy and made the experience really funny. It was a very creative film and I could appreciate the humor.

  21. As far as I can tell, this film was a creative outlet for the director and made purely for entertainment. However, I feel like there is probably a more meaningful message or joke somewhere in there, I just don't know what that is. Overall, cool film, but I couldn't watch it again.

  22. I still agree with Mitchell. I feel as I did before, and that is that this film had no reason besides entertaining an audience. Some films just don't compare to masterpieces with deep meaning. This film was just one of them. Was it entertaining and joyful, yes, and I believed that was it's sole purpose.

  23. While this film....is this even a film?! Whatever this is, its funny and got some laughs. Everything has a purpose, and some things simply exist to lighten the mood in the midst of depressing realities. I've never particularly liked this kind of animation. Honestly, if I watch it when I'm at all tired I feel like I'm hallucinating. I imagine tripping off acid feels similarly. Either way, it was an amusing way to portray harshly opposing cultures getting along without involving war or mass genocide. Which is cool.
